About Suzanne - Method

Suzanne’s tutoring approach combines a review of book material, homework, old exams, and quizzes with Suzanne’s own personal strategies for each subject.  Suzanne carefully evaluates each student’s work habits and learning style in order to create a teaching method for that student. Her technique blends a traditional pencil and paper approach with advanced calculator skills to make sure that the student understands how to manipulate the mathematics with or without the aid of technology. She focuses on the need for mathematical understanding and growth of personal study skills.

Education and Experience

Suzanne began her teaching career while in high school as a teaching assistant for the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology Center for Educational Programs (ITCEP) for their Saturday and summer courses.  She obtained her Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics graduating with honors from the University of Wisconsin in 2002. While obtaining this degree, she tutored all levels of mathematics and taught small discussion sections for TRIO Student Support Services.  After college, Suzanne taught Precalculus and AP Calculus (AB and BC) at Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.  In addition, Suzanne spent 2 years working for Kaplan Test Prep teaching SAT, PSAT, ACT, and GRE.  She currently works for Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis--a pre-K through 12 college preparatory day school--in the business office and tutors privately throughout the Twin Cities.  Suzanne carries approximately 8 students each semester as ongoing private tutees along with additional students on an as-needed basis throughout the year.

What People Have To Say ...

Katie Kennedy, student
tutored in college Calculus, single variable
"Suzy has been a wonderful tutor for me. She took all of the complicated calculus and broke it down into little pieces that I could understand. We worked at a pace that was tailored for me, and she always made sure I understood the concept completely before moving on. Suzy is a great tutor!"

Becky Palmer, parent
of a high school student tutored in AP Calculus AB and Precalculus
"I whole-heartedly recommend Suzanne [Reichel] Ferguson for math tutoring.  My daughter looks forward to the tutoring each week.  The tutoring has made a huge difference in her level of understanding math.  Suzanne is reliable, knowledgeable and very effective in focusing on key concepts that has resulted in a measurable improvement in her math grades."

Tim and Gay Dubbs, parents
of high school students tutored in Geometry, Algebra II and Precalculus
"We appreciate Suzy's conscientious and thorough approach to tutoring our sons in math.  She is able to vary her approach based on their age and readiness level."

Chelsea Zimmerman, high school senior
tutored in Precalculus and AP Calculus AB
"This past quarter I got an A in math.  I know that it would not have been  possible but for Suzanne’s tutoring help. Suzanne teaches calculus in a way that I can understand, by hacking through complicated equations in order to give me a shortened, easier way to understand the main concepts. Once I understand what I am solving, we analyze the complicated equations.  Suzanne has become familiar to my math class, for I am often teaching my class easier ways to remember concepts in class. Recently we learned the unit circle, and Suzanne taught me an easy way to remember the sine of trigonometric functions in each quadrant. The next day I taught my class the trick, and later learned that my math teacher loved the trick so much he taught it to all his other classes. Suzanne teaches math with patience and clarity; math has never been so painless!"

Cheri Haynes, parent
of high school students tutored in PSAT preparation
"Suzanne's ability to individualize the lessons, while covering all of the material, is invaluable. I am positive that my son and daughter could not find a better preparation for this important test."
