The Preventable Nightmare in Las Vegas

One week ago, in a national catastrophe that captured the attention of people all over the world, the Twin Cities lost one of its own. We won’t flood you with pictures of his family or feed the gruesome lust for gory details. We’ll just say this:

It was preventable.

As an educator, I value diverse ideas and logical argument, so I understand that the political and cultural battles regarding firearms run deep. I recognize the rights and traditions of the millions of American gun owners. I also recognize that our national gun violence is unparalleled anywhere in the modern world. I know all this and yet can’t stop thinking…

It was preventable.

Dozens of lives, snuffed out. Hundreds more punctured by trauma and fear.

And all of it was preventable.

As a company, Ferguson Tutoring neither seeks out, nor actively avoids commenting on controversial political and social issues. I believe that my job is to tutor students and prepare them for success in their academic, professional, and personal lives. That’s where I prefer to focus my efforts.

Still, during this last week, I couldn’t stop thinking about how I would feel if one of those promising students were cut down by gunfire while on vacation at a country music festival, and how it would have been so preventable.
